Quality in Education: Starting at the Gate and Beyond

For an educational institution quality starts from the gate. If you give an instruction to your security guard that: You have to give good service quality? What do you think he will understand? Nothing. He has to be given precise instruction as to what a good service means. He has to be told that when a car, bike or person enters, he has to smile. Salute when needed. Help in parking. Help the person to take the vehicle out of it is struck.

Only the classroom quality and the physical evidences won’t help if the people responsible for providing services don’t understand what exactly quality means.

Marketing is full of jargons and abstract concepts. Value, quality and satisfaction are few of many.

What is Quality?

Quality refers to the level of excellence or how good something is. In the context of an educational institution, quality matters right from the entrance gate. Imagine telling the security guard to provide good service quality. That’s too vague. Instead, we need to be clear about what good service means in this context.

We should instruct the security guard to:

Greet everyone with a smile when they arrive.

Salute when appropriate.

Assist with parking.

Help people if their vehicle gets stuck.

It’s not enough to have high-quality classrooms and physical facilities. Everyone involved in providing services needs to understand what quality service means and how to deliver it.

In the world of marketing, we often encounter complex concepts like Quality, value, satisfaction and loyalty, but let’s break it down to something simple – Quality. 🌟

Quality is all about excellence and how good something is. But in the context of an educational institution, it starts right from the entrance gate. Let me share a recent experience that highlights the importance of clarity in delivering quality service.

Today, I had to cancel my class at one of the colleges simply because I couldn’t find parking, and the security guard couldn’t assist me. 🚫

Here’s the thing – when we tell our security guard to provide “good service quality,” that’s too vague. We must communicate specific expectations to ensure quality service.

High-quality classrooms and facilities are crucial, but it’s equally essential that everyone involved in providing services understands what quality service means and how to deliver it. πŸ«πŸ’«

What’s surprising is that nobody from the management has shown any concern about this incident. Quality matters, not just in the classrooms but at every touchpoint of the educational journey. Let’s ensure that quality is our guiding principle, even at the entrance gate. πŸš€
