When you go to a fine-dine restaurant, what are you actually paying for?

Most people would say food.

But food is only one part of the experience.

When we visit a fine-dine restaurant, we go there to:

  • Socialize
  • Celebrate
  • Spend time with friends or family

And the restaurant creates an environment for that.

You are not just paying for the food.
You are paying for the:

• Ambience
• Interior design and layout
• Music
• Garden or outdoor space
• Crowd and atmosphere
• Crockery and plating
• Service

Even the presentation of food matters.

That is why shows like MasterChef place so much emphasis on plating.

Think about ordering grilled chicken in a fine-dine restaurant.

The plate usually looks beautiful:

  • Chicken placed neatly on one side
  • Noodles or mashed potatoes on the other
  • Sauce carefully spread across the plate

The presentation itself elevates the experience.

Now imagine ordering the same grilled chicken at home.

Most of that experience disappears.

Or take another example: momo delivery.

Often when the box arrives:

  • Momos are sticking to each other
  • Some have lost their outer cover
  • The presentation is messy

At that point, the only thing left is the food itself.

Which raises an interesting question.

If most of the elements that justify a fine-dine price are missing during delivery,
is it reasonable for restaurants to charge the exact same price?

Ok it is not feasible for the restaurants to discriminate the price and

And if they do want to charge the same price,
shouldn’t they at least improve the packaging?

For example, imagine momo packaging inspired by Ferrero Rocher.

Each momo placed in its own compartment, just like each chocolate.

Better spacing.
Better presentation.
Better experience.

Delivery is not just about sending food.

It is about recreating the experience as much as possible inside a box.

Right now, many fine-dine restaurants seem to be charging for the restaurant experience while delivering only the food.
